The Global Architecture Profession by the UIA Professional Practice Commission

The UIA Professional Practice Commission has released a new Limited Scope Sector Study, The Global Architecture Profession, offering a comparative look at how architects are positioned within economies, construction systems and societies worldwide. Drawing on data from 25 countries across five regions, the study examines the scale of the profession, the prevalence of small practices, the extent and enforcement of regulatory frameworks, and how architects’ economic position varies between higher, and lower-income countries.

It also explores demographic shifts, including the gender balance and age profile of the profession, as well as the uneven pipeline of future architects and the potential mismatch between architectural education and regions experiencing the fastest urban growth. Together, these findings offer a valuable comparative resource for understanding the profession’s development, capacity and influence around the world.
